Overview

The Principal Writer for Solutions, Sales & Marketing is a hybrid role with technical, business, and marketing elements. Activities involve brainstorming, conceiving strategies, understanding solutions, managing assignments, leading tasks, researching, writing, editing, reviewing, and engaging and collaborating with all personnel and experience levels—from associates to executive management—as required.

Responsibilities

  • Receive direction from and reports to the Capture and Proposal Department Manager
  • Engage with engineering, technical, and other delivery personnel to understand refine information technology- and IT service-based ideas and concepts, exercising good technical discretion and business judgment.
  • Perform independent and/or directed research and assist with capture efforts to better understand market conditions and customer requirements and environments. He/she will share findings and insights to better position the company for successful written responses to solicitations.
  • Visualize final products and offer creative and innovative ideas to resolve.
  • Immerse him/herself into solicitations, simple or complex, as assigned. This may include requests for information, quotations, or proposals.
  • Evaluate solicitations requirements and contribute to response themes and concepts.
  • Support the company throughout the solicitation-response, or proposal, process, as directed.
  • Maintain schedule awareness and meet deadlines by establishing priorities and task targets. He/she will relay their status during calls and meetings and consider and coordinate his/her efforts with other contributors.
  • Attend, engage in, and organize, as required, meetings for strategic or other purposes.
  • Interview, or otherwise engage as required and appropriate, subject matter experts to gain an understanding of subject matter and to gather data and information essential or otherwise useful to the development and production of finished written or graphic/visual products. He/she will consider all information to effectively and efficiently communicate information, messages, and ideas to other parties and audiences.
  • Consider and identity actual and possible sources of information.
  • Develop content by assembling information, creating outlines, and writing compelling text in consideration of and according to win themes and differentiators, client profiles, sales opportunities, values, competitors, and advantages.
  • Conceive, write, revise, edit, and review company materials for any purpose or use, as assigned, whether internal or external, for delivery, posting, or publication.
  • Develop market- or client-facing collateral for any purpose, as assigned, such as presentations or case studies.
  • Consider the target audience and advise and adjust any and all materials accordingly.
  • Evaluate and consider ways to improve writing results, including potential process changes, tool uses, best practices, and/or new methods or approaches. He/she will volunteer ideas, solicited or unsolicited, and either on his/her own initiative or as directed, implement agreed-to changes, as appropriate.
  • Initiate, write, guide, edit, and/or revise company documents, including white papers and technical literature, as assigned. He/she will recommend and/or apply changes as appropriate, including changes to content, consistency, etc.
  • Conceive, contribute to, and/or develop graphics.
  • Improve the company's Web presence, including content creation and design(s) for the company website.
  • Write, edit, and/or review win announcements and/or press releases as needed.

Qualifications

Required Experience and Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering or Technical field
  • 3-7 years of experience writing or supporting federal RFx responses
  • 3-7 years of experience writing, editing and designing marketing collateral such as press releases, marketing slicks, case studies, or news articles
  • Familiarity with the structure of federal RFx structure including PWS/SOW and sections L & M
  • Excellent editing and proofing skills with expert knowledge of English language style guides
  • Strong MS Office suite skills: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and Publisher.

Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge of WordPress or other website publishing platforms.
  • Familiarity working within a SharePoint Environment
  • Additional writing experience such as websites, technical manuals, press releases, training documents, and other matl
