Overview

This role is in support of a federal agency to provide lifecycle support services for a recently implemented, custom-built Enterprise Data Warehouse and its related applications (reporting and business intelligence applications and also the tool being used for ETL processes, data integration, and metadata management). Data modeling expertise is required to create, update, synchronize, and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models that support the different layers of the Data Warehouse and its associated applications. In addition, metadata management is needed to ensure that the data elements being used in the existing metadata repository are regularly synchronized with the updated conceptual, logical, and physical data models.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all the data models that support a custom-built data management and reporting environment (conceptual, logical, and physical), using Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler for the logical and physical models
  • Review new and changing business data requirements for: reports and dashboards to be developed or updated; data to be extracted from the primary source system (a new Oracle EBS Financials ERP implementation) or from other source systems; and data to be exchanged with source systems
  • Develop the data models for the normalized Operational Data Store (ODS) and the de-normalized Information Delivery Layer (IDL)
  • Update the conceptual, logical, and physical data models for the Data Warehouse to reflect new or modified data entities and data elements from ETL requirements, report and dashboard requirements, and data integration requirements
  • Maintain mappings between physical data models and logical data models and between conceptual business vocabularies and logical data models
  • Collect and maintain the metadata for data repositories, including the Oracle SQL Developer repository, the Ab Initio Metadata Driven Warehouse (MDW), and the Ab Initio Metadata HUB
  • Develop and maintain a canonical Enterprise Logical Data Model (ELDM) to guide overall data planning and development efforts in the data warehouse environment and its related data integrations
  • Define and maintain metadata, including data definitions, people and data stewardship roles, data validation rules, and valid values
  • Develop conceptual business vocabularies to support consistent and meaningful reporting and the tracking of historical trends for multiple end-user stakeholder groups
