Overview

BRMi is seeking a Copy Editor to perform copyediting and proofreading duties in support of corporate marketing campaigns and projects and to track marketing projects and documents.

 

**Hybrid in Vienna, VA 2 days per week**

Responsibilities

  • Reviews and edits marketing materials to ensure accuracy, clarity, integrity and brand adherence.
  • Edits corporate marketing materials (e.g., internet copy, videos/TV spots, printed materials, credit/debit cards) through all stages of production, including draft copy, formatted typeset copy, final artwork and proofs in print and electronic media
  • Conducts comprehensive reviews of materials to ensure accuracy, regulatory compliance, consistency of style and format, integrity of brand, and overall sense of message; corrects punctuation, spelling, and grammar
  • Recommends changes that make copies more concise and clear
  • Proofs materials created by placement agency for accuracy and content prior to submission
  • Advises staff of revisions or corrections to be made; determines impact of changes on production costs
  • Prioritizes proofreading assignments in order to meet production schedule deadlines
  • Administers project tracking and document inventory control databases.
  • Tracks multiple versions of the same marketing initiatives that are targeted to different audiences throughout the development process, ensuring all versions include the correct response/promotion codes, rates, copy personalization, phone numbers, and web URLs; proofs items to a source document or copyedits
  • Maintains database of proofreading guidelines, including copyrighted names, disclosures, and Navy Federal-specific usage
  • Creates, maintains and updates corporate Marketing Branding and Copy Style Guides for all print and electronic media, tone, factual data, and product information, including copyrighted names, and disclosures
  • Maintains a library of published marketing materials, including the development background on completed jobs
  • Regularly updates a brochure reference list for distribution to all Branch Offices
  • Administers project tracking and document inventory control databases.
  • Documents status of marketing jobs in production management database.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1-5 years’ experience working in copyediting or related field
  • Experience in the use of Chicago Manual of Style, AP Style and proofreading/copyediting symbols
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively and in a team setting
  • Proficiency using PCs and database/word processing software
  • Desired - prior experience in financial services, or complex regulatory environment
  • Desired - experience working in an in-house marketing/advertising or external agency
  • Demonstrated knowledge of English grammar and spelling, substantial vocabulary, and excellent written communication skills
  • Demonstrated copyediting skills, including the ability to identify inaccuracies with great attention to detail and to recognize the need for text improvements where there is a lack of clarity, inefficient or improper word usage, or improper rhythm/word flow
  • Demonstrated project management skills, including the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and cope with unexpected contingencies in a demanding in-house ad agency environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills
  • Desired - College degree or coursework in English or related area of study
