Overview

BRMi is seeking an experienced Mainframe Engineer to support and maintain critical enterprise banking applications in a high-availability production environment. This individual will be responsible for troubleshooting application and batch processing issues, researching root causes of production incidents, resolving programming defects, and supporting ongoing system stability and performance.

 

The ideal candidate brings strong hands-on experience in mainframe development and production support, with the ability to analyze issues across application, database, and batch processing layers. Experience supporting financial services or core banking platforms is highly desired.

 

This position includes participation in a mandatory rotational on-call schedule supporting nightly batch operations after an initial training and knowledge transfer period.

Salary: 95k-106k

Responsibilities

  • Support, maintain, and enhance mainframe applications across development, test, and production environments.

     

  • Research, analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve application defects, batch failures, and production incidents.

     

  • Debug, modify, test, and implement code changes in COBOL applications.

     

  • Support online transaction processing and application services within CICS environments.

     

  • Create, update, and troubleshoot JCL for batch job execution, scheduling, and recovery.

     

  • Analyze and support DB2 databases, queries, and data-related issues impacting application performance.

     

  • Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for recurring issues.

     

  • Work closely with development, QA, infrastructure, and business teams to support system enhancements and issue resolution.

     

  • Support lower environments during initial onboarding and transition into production support responsibilities.

     

  • Participate in an on-call rotation (one week approximately every ten weeks) to support nightly batch processing and critical production incidents.

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in mainframe development, programming, or production support.

     

  • Strong hands-on experience with:

     

    • COBOL

    • CICS

    • DB2

    • JCL

       

  • Experience troubleshooting production issues, batch processing failures, and application defects.

     

  • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.

     

  • Experience supporting mission-critical enterprise applications in a production environment.

     

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced support environment.

     

  • Preferred Qualifications

     

    • Experience supporting banking, financial services, or core processing systems.

       

    • Experience with FIS/Systematics or similar core banking platforms.

       

    • Familiarity with incident management, release management, and change control processes.

       

    • Experience supporting 24x7 production environments or participating in on-call support rotations.
