Overview

BRMi is seeking a Technical Analyst to support a large financial services client’s Digital team in developing and enhancing industry-leading web, mobile, chat, and voice solutions that meet customers’ evolving financial needs.

 

This entry- to mid-level Technical Analyst position is targeted toward professionals with 8 or more years of relevant information technology experience. The Technical Analyst will work closely with product owners, business analysts, solution architects, developers, and quality assurance teams to translate business needs into detailed technical system requirements.

 

The successful candidate will have experience analyzing complex information systems, defining application and integration requirements, working with APIs, and understanding multi-tier application architectures. This role requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to investigate existing systems, data flows, interfaces, and application behavior to determine how new capabilities and enhancements should be implemented.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with product ownership, business analysts, solution architects, developers, and other stakeholders to translate business needs into detailed technical system requirements.
  • Lead technical requirements discussions and ensure requirements are clear, complete, testable, and aligned with intended business outcomes.
  • Proactively identify requirement gaps, dependencies, risks, and technical issues and communicate them to product ownership and project stakeholders.
  • Ensure alternative workflows, exception conditions, error handling, and other non-happy-path scenarios are identified and appropriately addressed within system requirements.
  • Advocate for technical solutions that consider maintainability, scalability, consistency, and opportunities for component and service reuse.
  • Review existing system documentation and exercise test versions of applications, services, and APIs to understand current functionality and identify enhancement opportunities.
  • Investigate enterprise and third-party/vendor APIs to determine whether required data and functionality are available to support intended system capabilities.
  • Analyze API requests, responses, data structures, system behaviors, and integration dependencies.
  • Develop data mappings between interfacing applications, services, APIs, and data sources.
  • Create and maintain detailed system requirements documentation for applications and services, including interface and integration specifications.
  • Define requirements across application presentation, service/API, and data layers.
  • Perform application, service, and API testing and validation to confirm expected system behavior.
  • Use system documentation, database information, application logs, API responses, and scenario testing to troubleshoot issues and determine root causes.
  • Write and execute SQL queries to support data analysis, validation, troubleshooting, and requirements development.
  • Assist lead analysts and product teams in developing and prioritizing features and epics to ensure work is aligned with product delivery strategy and focused on maximum business value.
  • Partner closely with Quality Assurance and development teams throughout the software development lifecycle to clarify requirements, resolve defects, and address production issues.
  • Provide demonstrations of system capabilities and functionality to internal project teams and business stakeholders.
  • Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies, including project planning, sprint planning, release planning, daily stand-ups, demonstrations/reviews, retrospectives, and backlog refinement.
  • Conduct complex technical analysis across multiple applications, services, products, and integrations.
  • Manage multiple priorities and deliverables within a fast-paced environment with aggressive timelines.
  • Support investigation and resolution of application and production issues by analyzing system behavior and identifying underlying technical causes.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of relevant information technology experience.
  • Demonstrated experience capturing and documenting technical requirements for information systems and applications.
  • Experience translating business requirements and business needs into detailed technical and system requirements.
  • Hands-on experience working with APIs and application integrations.
  • Familiarity with multi-tier application architecture, including presentation/application, services/processing, and data management layers.
  • Experience conducting technical analysis across complex applications, systems, or products.
  • Experience developing system, application, interface, or integration requirements.
  • Ability to analyze data flows and map data between interfacing systems.
  • Ability to write SQL queries for analysis, validation, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience working within Agile/Scrum development environments.
  • Understanding of application testing, service validation, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate complex technical issues.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts and requirements effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with product owners, business analysts, architects, developers, QA teams, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Desired:

  • Experience using API testing tools such as Postman or SoapUI.
  • Experience writing requirements for native mobile applications.
  • Experience writing front-end web or mobile application requirements.
  • Experience writing back-end service, microservice, or API requirements.
  • Experience supporting digital banking, financial services, or other highly regulated environments.
  • Experience working with web, mobile, chat, or voice-based digital platforms.
  • Experience validating APIs and analyzing JSON or XML requests and responses.
  • Experience working with enterprise-scale integrated applications.
